Locality Description: Grand Prairie. Under powerlines, south of Doryn Road and west of Lake Ridge Parkway, behind housing developments. At the edge of a field on the easternmost corner of an abandoned property with only house-foundation remains. (Coordinates obtained using Garmin GPS; WGS 84).

Habitat Description: Full sun beside mowed field and along fenceline.

Botanical Data

Plant Notes: Small tree in flower growing in a conspecific clump with other younger trees, approximately 8 meters from a much larger clump of large trees (8 m tall) of the same species. Staminate catkins are densely packed with protruding pale-yellow anthers. Rich- to olive-green sandpapery leaves, that are paler/whitish and soft on their abaxial surface. Stem is tan-coloured with conspicuous orangish lenticels. Young branches, petioles and leaf undersides are densely pubescent. Trunk banches into 6 stems approximately below 1 m, and DBH for each stem is ~3cm. Locally common. Naturalized. Growing with: Maclura pomifera, Celtis laevigata, Fraxinus, Prosopis glandulosa.
