Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Similar to J. interior, distinguished as in the key; tufted perennial with stems 25–100(–125) cm tall, without obvious rhizomes; perianth 4–5 mm long; capsule 2.9–3.6 mm long.


Notes: Low ground; sparsely scattered in much of TX; widespread throughout most of the U.S. and Canada. Jun. [J. tenuis Willd. var. dudleyi (Wiegand) F.J. Herm.] This species is unusual in having leatherypapery, yellow leaf auricles. (dudleyi: for its discoverer, William Russell Dudley, 1849–1911)
