Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Scapose annual 4–35 cm tall; phyllaries ca. 10; pappus of 5 bristles 4–7 mm long and 5 small scales; n = 5 or 10.


Notes: Sandy open woods, fields, and roadsides; Burnet, Denton, Henderson, and Tarrant cos., also Comanche Co.; se and e TX w to Grand Prairie and Edwards Plateau. Mar–Apr, rarely repeating as late as Oct. (virginica: of Virginia)
